Marvel Studios Executive Confirms DAREDEVIL and Other Netflix Marvel Shows Are MCU Canon

A recent trailer for Marvel’s series Echo was released and it featured footage from Netflix’s Daredevil series as a way to set up the events of the story for Echo. I thought that was interesting because the Daredevil series was not really considered canon. There was a lot of distance between those Netflix shows and what was happening in the MCU.

Well, Marvel Studios executive producer Brad Winderbaum believes that the original Daredevil series is 100% part of the MCU timeline. During a recent interview with Screen Rant, he said:

"I can say that up until this point, we've been a little bit cagey about what's Sacred Timeline, what's not Sacred Timeline. That was born of, frankly, a period at the studio where we were like, 'We have to stick the landing with the vendors.' It was another part of the company developing the Netflix stuff.

"We were aware of what they were doing, they were aware of what we were doing, but there was a lot to balance anyway. But now that some time has passed; now that we see actually how well integrated the stories are, I think that I personally, Brad Winderbaum, would be confident in saying it is part of the Sacred Timeline."

I mean, it makes complete sense that those Netflix shows would be a part of the MCU. The fact that Marvel has attempted to distance itself from them is kind of ridiculous. It’s good to see that some executives over there are embracing those shows’ place in the MCU.

Both Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio have reprised their roles on several occasions, and while Marvel has been vague on certain aspects of their characters as far as timelines, both of them are fundamentally the same characters from Netflix's Marvel shows.

Daredevil and Kingpin will play a role in the Echo series and they will return for Daredevil: Born Again, which is in the middle of a major creative overhaul. D'Onofrio said of the series: "You guys have no idea what you're in store for with [Daredevil: Born Again]. I know a little bit more than you guys and all I can say is, during that next series, you're not going to be thinking about anything but the next episode. I promise."
