DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Will Reportedly Bring "Devil's Reign" and "Gang War" Arcs to the MCU
Marvel is looking to expand its presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's street-level superhero landscape with the highly anticipated series, Daredevil: Born Again. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Daredevil comics, this new adaptation promises to delve into the political and criminal underbelly of New York City.
Now, the scooper site The Cosmic Circus is reporting some new information. They say that the series is set to incorporate elements from the "Devil's Reign" and "Gang War" Marvel Comics story arcs.
In the pages of the Daredevil comics, specifically in 2017's Daredevil #28, written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Ron Garney, we witnessed a stunning turn of events. Wilson Fisk, better known as the Kingpin, managed to secure the mayoral seat in New York City. His victory was not just a product of charisma; it involved rigging and manipulation. With his newfound power, Kingpin immediately set out to implement his sinister agenda: outlawing all forms of vigilante activity in the city. This move effectively placed local heroes like Daredevil in a difficult spot, thwarting their efforts to combat crime and corruption.
The "Devil's Reign" storyline explores the complex power dynamics between Kingpin and the vigilantes who dare to oppose him. “Devil's Reign” is a compelling and intense comic book storyline within the Marvel Universe that revolves around the power struggle between Daredevil (Matt Murdock) and Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin, who becomes the Mayor of New York City. In this arc, Kingpin uses his newfound political influence to launch a crackdown on vigilantes, making their activities illegal. This leads to a fierce confrontation between Daredevil and Kingpin, with the latter using all his resources to hunt down and eliminate Daredevil and his allies.
The addition of the "Gang War" arc hints at even more conflict, as various criminal factions vie for control of the city's underworld. This story arc is a gritty and action-packed narrative that takes us deep into the criminal underbelly of New York City. In this storyline, various criminal factions, including the Maggia, the Kingpin's organization, and the Silvermane crime family, engage in a brutal turf war for control of the city's lucrative criminal enterprises. Amidst the chaos and violence, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and other street-level heroes find themselves caught in the crossfire as they strive to maintain order and protect the innocent.
Daredevil: Born Again will feature the return of Vincent D'Onofrio, who will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, a character he portrayed throughout the critically acclaimed Netflix series Daredevil. His commanding presence will be felt again.
Charlie Cox, who brought the titular hero to life as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the same Netflix series, is also making a comeback. It’ll be awesome to see Cox don the Daredevil suit once again and kick some ass.
Jon Bernthal is another fan-favorite actor set to rejoin the MCU as Frank Castle/The Punisher. Known for his gritty portrayal of the antihero, Bernthal's return promises to add another layer of awesomeness to the series.
The new creative team behind Daredevil: Born Again includes co-directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, and they have indicated that are committed to delivering a high-quality series. Dario Scardapane, the executive producer behind both seasons of The Punisher, is helming the series as the showrunner. Chris Ord and Matt Corman, the original showrunners, are also attached as executive producers, ensuring continuity and expertise in crafting the show's narrative.
