Marvel Wants DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN to Become an Annual Event
Daredevil: Born Again hasn’t even aired yet, but Marvel Studios is already banking on it being a big hit and a major fixture of Disney+. The series, which premieres on March 4th, has officially secured a second season before season one has even debuted and Marvel has much bigger plans beyond that.
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' Head of Streaming, recently spoke with Screen Rant and revealed that they’re looking to make Daredevil: Born Again a long-term, annual event.
“That is the plan. Season 2 will come out next year, and then hopefully season 3 and season infinity after that. I think this world is extremely rich, and there are many stories to be told on the streets of New York.”
Marvel wants Daredevil to be a staple of the MCU’s future, returning to the street-level storytelling that defined the Netflix series.
The show will once again center around Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, while bringing back familiar faces like Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page, and others.
Beyond the show’s longevity, Winderbaum emphasized its deep-rooted connection to Marvel’s history, particularly its New York setting:
“It’s certainly something very fundamental to Marvel, going back to the earliest days of publishing with Stan and Jack and Steve and the original Marvel bullpen. It’s New York through New York, and the fact that we’re able to shoot here and tell a story about New York made by New Yorkers is just fundamental to the series.”
Marvel has been leaning heavily into multiversal, cosmic, and high-concept storytelling in recent years (Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, What If…?), but Born Again brings things back to the gritty streets. That is sure to be a welcome change for fans who have been craving more grounded, character-driven stories in the MCU.
Winderbaum has made it clear that Born Again is built for multiple seasons, saying: “It is one-hundred percent [...] a multi-season show.”
That said, Marvel isn’t putting a cap on how long it will run, leaving room for the series to evolve and expand naturally. Even Cox himself is open to the idea of an extended run: “It would be cool for that journey to continue.”
With Born Again’s first season already diving into a major Daredevil comics storyline with Kingpin becoming the Mayor of New York, the possibilities for future seasons are endless. The source material offers decades of interesting and thrilling stories to dive into.
