Marvel's BLACK WIDOW Is "Very Raw and Very Painful and Very Beautiful" According to Florence Pugh
While we wait for the first trailer for Black Widow to drop in the near future, we have some comments here regarding the film from actress Florence Pugh, who plays Yelena Belova, one of the film’s many Black Widows. She will star alongside Scarlett Johansson and MCU newcomer Rachel Weisz, who also carries the Black Widow title.
While speaking with Booksmart star Beanie Feldstein for Variety’s Actors on Actors video series, Pugh talked about her experience working on Black Widow, saying:
“It was one of the most bizarre, nuts, extravaganza experiences…I think we’ve made something very raw and very painful and very beautiful and I think people are going to be really surprised by the outcome of a big action film having that much heart. And I know lots of people will be emotional about [Scarlett Johansson] because her character had such a hard ending [in Avengers: Endgame], but it was special learning from her, and she’s been doing this for like 10 years in those films. For this to be her film was special. And I got to be there and see how she does stunts and lives it, and it’s so her.”
That sounds exciting! I know not every Marvel fan is excited about this movie, but I’m looking forward to it! I've already seen some footage from it, and I love what Marvel has shared so far at events like Comic-Con and D23. Once the first trailer is released, I’m sure that the fans will flip out over it! If you want to read a description of the footage that I saw you can click here and here.
Black Widow is set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War and sees the character travel to Budapest while she is on the run from the U.S. Government, which is hunting her down because of her actions in Civil War. While in Budapest she reunites with David Harbour's Red Guardian and Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova. They are referred to as a family in the trailer that was screened at D23. We also know that Black Widow will find herself up against the deadly villain Taskmaster, whose identity has yet to be revealed.
Directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) from a script by Jac Schaeffer (The Hustle), Black Widow will be released in theaters on May 1st, 2020.
