Marvel's SECRET INVASION Used AI Generated Art To Create Its Opening Credits and Fans Are Upset

One of the most talked about aspects of Marvel’s new series Secret Invasion isn’t the story that it’s telling or the big events that took place in the first episode, it’s the fact that Marvel used AI technology to generate art to create the opening credits for the series. As you might imagine a lot of fans are pissed.

The titles were developed by Method Studios, which has worked with Marvel on previous shows such as Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and Loki. Those titles were more traditional and used CGI VFX to develop them. Loki itself features 3D character animation, set extensions, and virtual set designs.

So, the AI-generated imagery used for Secret Invasion was quite a surprise, especially from a company that was built by artists. The title sequence sees green-hued settings and figures shape-shifting between human and Skrull personas.

For those of you wondering why they went the AI route, Secret Invasion producer Ali Selim explained to Polygon: “When we reached out to the AI vendors, that was part of it. It just came right out of the shape-shifting, Skrull world identity, you know? Who did this? Who is this?”

Selim admitted that he doesn’t “really understand” how the AI tech works, but he was “fascinated with the ways in which the AI could translate the sense of foreboding he wanted for the series.” He said: “We would talk to them about ideas and themes and words, and then the computer would go off and do something. And then we could change it a little bit by using words, and it would change.”

I get what they were trying to do, but it’s definitely something that could’ve been done without AI and it probably would’ve looked a lot better had real artists actually worked on it.

Here are what people are saying on Twitter. Read through them and let us know what you think!?

Another person said: "Marvel really used A.I. to create the ugliest f**king intro known to man, they couldn't afford to hire a comicbook artists??? LIKE, WHAT THE F*CK IS THIS???”

Then there’s this: "This is an embarrassing new low. i can't believe marvel is proudly using the same visual gag that little kids use in tiktoks for fun."
