Mary Elizabeth Winstead Joins Maika Monroe Remake of THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is set to star opposite Maika Monroe in the upcoming remake of the 1992 psychological thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
The original film starred Rebecca De Mornay and Annabella Sciorra and it revolves around the unsettling consequences of trust and deception within a suburban family. The story follows Claire Bartel, a loving wife and mother, who unknowingly invites danger into her home when she hires a seemingly kind and competent nanny named Peyton Flanders.
Claire is unaware that Peyton harbors a deep grudge against her, blaming Claire for the downfall of her life after her husband, a prominent obstetrician, committed suicide following a sexual harassment scandal Claire had reported.
Peyton's husband’s death leaves her seeking revenge, and she sees infiltrating Claire's family as the perfect way to destroy her life from the inside.
As Peyton slowly gains the family's trust, her actions become increasingly manipulative and sinister. She begins to sabotage Claire’s life, causing chaos within the household and attempting to turn Claire’s loved ones against her.
Peyton's ultimate goal is to replace Claire and take over her family.
Michelle Garza Cervera will direct the movie with Micah Bloomberg penning the script. Monroe was the first choice for the role of nanny, so Winstead will be taking on the role of Claire.
