MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Star Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson Teases "Really Fun Script"

The live-action Masters of the Universe movie is officially moving forward, with cameras set to roll soon, and one of its stars, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, is already hyping up what’s to come.

Jóhannesson, who was recently confirmed to play Fisto in the film, shared a production update while attending the world premiere of Captain America: Brave New World, where he makes his MCU debut as Copperhead.

Speaking on the red carpet, he revealed that the team has been in preparation mode for months. He said: “We started prepping in November last year. Filming starts in about a week or so, a couple weeks.

“Up until now, it’s been a lot of weight-lifting and rehearsing, but we’re about to get into it, and we’ve got a really fun script that everyone in the cast loves. So, we can’t wait to get on set and perform it.”

The screenplay comes from Chris Butler, with the first draft penned by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee. I hope that it’s actually good, because I’m worried about the fact that the story is going to be set on Earth.

The film is said to the film introduces Adam as an ordinary man, working "a boring office job" in the “real world.” The Masters of the Universe stories are merely tales Adam heard as a little kid.

I hate that this movie is going to be set on Earth. I want a Masters of the Universe film set entirely on Eterinia! Why the hell is it so hard for Hollywood to give us that!? While I like some of the projects that Travis Knight has made, I’m worried about his take on He-Man.

The synopsis reads: “10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia.

“After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.

“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”

The movie also stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie (Community) as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba (Luther) as Man-At-Arms, while Jared Leto (Blade Runner 2049) will play the villain Skeletor.

Then there’s Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops.

Directed by Bumblebee's Travis Knight, the Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel project is gearing up for a 2026 release.
