Matilda Lutz’s Live-Action RED SONJA Movie Secures a UK Release
Matilda Lutz’s live-action Red Sonja has been sold to the UK, where it will be released “later this year” after the film has spent two years in post-production. There’s been a lot of interest surrounding this film project, we’ll just have to wait and see if it is worth the wait.
The fantasy action film was picked up by Signature Entertainment from Millennium Media, which has previously sold the movie in multiple international markets but a first release date has yet to be revealed. There’s still no distributer for the U.S.
The film follows barbarian huntress Red Sonja, who must unite a group of unlikely warriors to face off against the evil tyrant Emperor Draygan and his deadly bride, Dark Annisia.
The movie was directed by M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane, Silent Hill: Revelation). Rhona Mitra, one of the film’s actresses, previously talked about the film saying:
"From what I saw being able to stand back and observe so many of the parts of what was happening in that movie, I think it's going to be visually something spectacular actually.”
The movie also stars Wallis Day (Sex/Life, Batwoman) as Annisia and Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy, Misfits) as Draygan.
Additonal cast members include Michael Bisping (xXx: Return of Xander Cage) as Hawk, Martyn Ford as General Karlak (F9: The Fast Saga, Final Score), Eliza Matengu (Thor: Love and Thunder) as Amarak, Manal El Feitury (Code Red) as Ayala, and Katrina Durden (Doctor Strange, Shadow and Bone) as Saevus.
The legendary She-Devil With a Sword's story began in comics in 1973, and now 50 years later she remains the greatest sword-and-sorcery female heroine of them all!
