Mia Goth Weighs In on STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER and THE ODYSSEY With Two Very Different Kinds of Praise

Few actresses working today are booking projects at the pace Mia Goth is, and the range she’s covering right now is wild. Coming off her horror run in Pearl and MaXXXine, Goth is now jumping between prestige filmmakers and blockbuster franchises.

She can currently be seen in Frankenstein from Guillermo del Toro, she’ll appear later this year as Melantho in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and next year she steps into villain territory in Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy.

That’s a strong lineup of tightly guarded productions, and while Goth can’t spill any real plot details, she’s been opening up about what the experiences were like. What’s interesting is how different her praise sounds depending on the project.

While speaking with Collider about Star Wars: Starfighter, Goth couldn’t hide how much fun she had working in that galaxy far, far away.

“It was incredible. I had the most fun on a film set, I think, that I’ve ever had. I mean, Shawn Levy is just electric. When you meet him, you can’t help but feel that electricity. It just rubs off on you, you know.

“And he has a way of working with his crew, and he’s so bonded to everyone around him, and we had such a blast. I think people are gonna really love the movie.”

That sounds like the kind of shoot actors dream about. Big toys, high energy, and a director who keeps the vibe loose and exciting. Levy clearly left a strong impression, and Goth’s enthusiasm makes Starfighter feel like it’s leaning hard into crowd-pleasing fun.

Her comments about The Odyssey, though, hit a very different emotional note. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Goth described her time working with Christopher Nolan in much deeper terms.

“That was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It really was. It was profound. I’ve been such a fan of [Christopher Nolan’s] work for years. And so to have that opportunity and to witness him and how he directs was incredible. I took a lot from that. The trust that he has in actors was enlightening.”

Both experiences clearly meant a lot to her, but the contrast is hard to miss. Star Wars: Starfighter gave her the most fun she’s ever had on a set. The Odyssey landed as one of the greatest experiences of her entire life. That’s a pretty big distinction.

Of course, Goth is also navigating press for projects she’s not allowed to fully discuss yet, so this is part of the dance. She’s saying exactly what she should, keeping the excitement high without crossing any lines.

Still, it’s fascinating to hear how different directors and productions bring out different sides of an actor’s experience. Either way, audiences win.

Goth is firing on all cylinders right now, bouncing between auteur-driven epics and massive franchise filmmaking without losing her edge.

The Odyssey arrives in theaters on July 17. Star Wars: Starfighter opens on May 28, 2027.
