Michael Bay Didn't Want the G.I. JOE Crossover in TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS

Transformers producer Michael Bay initially wasn’t on board for the G.I. Joe crossover in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. He nearly stopped it from happening because he was worried that merging the two franchises together would cheapen the other Transformers movies.

Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins recently shared why it was so challenging to get G.I. Joe into Rise of the Beasts saying he needed to convince Hasbro and producers Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay to make it happen. In regards to Bay, he said:

“I called him 50 times. I would not let him off the hook. And when he finally stopped dodging my calls, we got him to sign off.”

Now, I’m a huge fan of G.I. Joe, but introducing them the way they did in Rise of the Beasts was a very disappointing and eye-roll moment. First of all, I didn’t like Rise of the Beasts and thought the story was ridiculously mediocre. Then to introduce G.I. Joe in such a disappointing film was just a big bummer. I wish Bay would’ve stopped it.

I already made my pitch on how I would’ve handled it, and the first thing they need to do is actually get some solid footing on the franchises. If they are going to crossover these franchises, they need to earn it, and to do that they really need a hard reset of both franchises kind of like what Skybound is now doing with the comics. But, the studio will continue with the mess they’ve started.

Hell, franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura already admitted that they don’t know what they're doing with the possible crossover! He said: "We don’t plan that far ahead. We react to what the audience is reacting to, so in a way we can please them, but also in a way it makes it feel fresh. We expect there’s going to be some allegiance and they’re going to go on some kind of mission together."

Ya gotta love these people who are somehow making movies in Hollywood.
