Michael Fassbender Talks About Starring in Zack Snyder's 300 - "I Just Enjoyed Getting in Shape and Getting Paid"
Zack Snyder’s 300 was such a badass movie. I remember watching it for the first time and being completely blown away by it. I also remember the intense behind-the-scenes videos showing how all of the actors got in shape for the movie.
Michael Fassbender played Stelios in the film back in 2006 and it was the actor’s big role in a feature film. During an interview with Vanity Fair, he talked about his time making the movie, saying:
"For 300, I think we trained for ten weeks before we stepped in front of a camera, and because the film is so physical, I think I have maybe four lines in the movie maybe. So it's very much physically-based character performance. And so to get in shape was key. But yeah, I just enjoyed the fact that I was, you know, getting in shape and getting paid."
300 is a visually stunning and action-packed historical epic that transports viewers to ancient Greece and the epic Battle of Thermopylae. The film follows the brave Spartan King Leonidas, played by Gerard Butler, and his fiercely loyal band of 300 Spartan warriors as they valiantly defend their homeland against the invading Persian army led by the ruthless Xerxes, portrayed by Rodrigo Santoro. With its distinctive visual style, 300 brings Frank Miller's graphic novel to life in a visceral and cinematic manner.
One day, Snyder might actually make a third film in the franchise with 300: Blood and Ashes. The film would have followed the events of 300: Rise of an Empire. That movie is described as a “gay love story." It’s an ancient Greek war epic that follows the relationship between Alexander the Great and his second-in-command, Haphaestion.
The filmmaker said of the film: "We got the rights back so we can make if we want it. I don't know what the marketplace is for an incredibly homoerotic, super violent, super sexual movie. But maybe it's perfect."
What are your thoughts on the original 300 movie?
