Neil Gaiman Offers a Positive Update on Netflix's THE SANDMAN Season 2

For those of you wondering what’s been going on with the second season of Netflix’s The Sandman series, Neil Gaiman has offered an update on the project, which is sure to make fans happy. There’s been absolutely no news or updates on Season 2 of the series since it was announced last fall, and fans have been curious about the development.

Well, Gaiman was asked by a fan on Tumblr for "a little news" on the next season of The Sandman, and the writer responded with a positive update! He said:

"Scripts are written. We are casting the first episode we will be shooting. Sets are being designed."

So the development of the next season of The Sandman is in full swing! Though the next installment of episodes is considered the second season, Netflix did not say that specifically. The streaming service. instead. opted to say that more episodes are on the way. Peter Friedlander, the Netflix head of UCAN scripted TV, explained that the show is considering “batches” in its approach to future episodes.

Desire actor Mason Alexander Park addressed the new episodes saying they will arrive "in a really cool way". Park explained: "Netflix has not gone on record as calling it a Season 2, on purpose, and so, I will, from now on and in the future, and possibly until the end of the universe not refer to it as Season 2 until we know what it is."

He continued: "There is more Sandman coming in a really cool way and it can take many forms, so we're starting shooting in the summer and we're gonna tackle the next huge chunk of stories in however long that might take, and I'm really excited to share the format of what that might be with everybody eventually."

In the series: “There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams, gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.”

The cast includes Tom Sturridge as Dream, Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Roderick Burgess, Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) as The Corinthian, Patton Oswalt (A.P. Bio) as the voice of Matthew the Raven, Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Good Place) as Death, Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Johanna Constantine, Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) as Ethel Cripps, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, and David Thewlis (the Harry Potter films) as John Dee.
