Netflix Reportedly Drops Out of THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN Remake with Christian Bale

A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Netflix was developing a remake of The Bride of Frankenstein titled The Bride. Maggie Gyllenhaal is set to direct the film with Christian Bale, Penelope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard set to star.

A new report has surfaced from Daniel Richtman saying that Netflix is no longer attached to the project. The report reads: “Netflix used the strikes to get rid of some projects including Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride which will now be shopped elsewhere. Penelope Cruz had the offer for The Bride and Christian Bale was attached as Doctor Frankenstein.”

I assume that Bale, Cruz, and Sarsgaard are still attached to the project as it’s being shopped around. Bale and Gyllenhaal previously worked together on The Dark Knight, and it’s cool to see that they are looking to work together again on this project.

Maybe they should take the project over to Blumhouse at Universal Pictures. It seems like that might be the best home for it as they are developing some of their own Universal Monster movies. I’m curious to see how this project turns out if it gets made. I’d like to see what Gyllenhaal’s vision of the story would be.
