New AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumor Claims Doctor Doom Has a Twisted Plan for the Fantastic Four and X-Men

Marvel Studios is gearing up to bring a ton of Marvel heroes back together, and if a new rumor is even halfway true, Avengers fans should probably buckle up.

Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be a massive collision of Marvel eras, and a new claim suggests Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom might be pulling the strings in a way that could turn the Fantastic Four and X-Men into unwilling pawns.

The upcoming MCU event film will reunite the Avengers for the first time since 2019, while also folding in Marvel’s First Family and a lineup of familiar mutants from the Fox X-Men universe. The common enemy is Doctor Doom, a multiversal threat whose ambitions clearly extend far beyond a single reality.

According to a rumor from scooper @MyTimeToShineHello, Doom’s plan doesn’t begin with conquest. It begins with cooperation.

We already got a tease of Doom’s presence in The Fantastic Four: First Steps thanks to its eerie mid-credits scene, which showed Victor Von Doom kneeling before Franklin Richards with his mask removed. Doom is traditionally the Fantastic Four’s greatest enemy, but this rumor claims he actively seeks them out in Avengers: Doomsday, presenting himself as an ally against the growing threat of multiversal incursions.

The story supposedly has Doom and the Fantastic Four traveling to the main MCU reality to warn its heroes about what’s coming and to help stop the incursions affecting the multiverse.

That lines up with what was hinted at in the Thunderbolts post-credits scene, suggesting Marvel is laying groundwork for something much bigger. Of course, trusting Doom is a dangerous game.

The claim goes on to say that Doom, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers then journey to the X-Men universe, which is believed to be the source of an impending incursion. This seems to be the same reality seen at the end of The Marvels, where Monica Rambeau encountered Beast and an alternate version of her mother, now known as Binary. If that’s true, Doom may be deliberately steering Marvel’s heroes toward a catastrophic confrontation.

The rumor makes it sound like Doom is intentionally setting the Avengers and Fantastic Four on a collision course with the X-Men. If so, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine this as part of a larger scheme to weaken every major heroic force across the multiverse before making his move. Whether Doom is hunting something specific in the mutant universe or simply trying to seize control of it remains unclear.

This all raises some questions. Do the Avengers and Fantastic Four realize they’re being manipulated before it’s too late? Does Doom turn on them the moment he gets what he wants, or does he keep playing the long game? And if the X-Men are caught in the middle of this mess, how much damage gets done before everyone realizes what’s really going on?

While none of this is confirmed, Marvel’s own marketing hints that the mutant side of the story may lean heavily into tragedy. The X-Men-focused Doomsday teaser already suggests high emotional stakes, and the returning cast from the Fox era only adds weight to that idea.

This is all just a rumor and speculation, but even if part of this storyline turns out to be real, fans should expect a darker, more chaotic chapter in the MCU where alliances are fragile and Doctor Doom is several steps ahead of everyone else.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, with the story continuing in Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
