New GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE Details Revealed and Film Will Be "More Connected" To Original Movies
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is once again going to bring back the cast of the original franchise films. Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz, and Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore, will all be back to bust some ghosts in the film, and it was also previously revealed that they will be joined by Annie Pott’s Janine Melnitz.
During a recent interview with Empire, some new details were revealed for the film regarding some of these characters. One of the big story elements of the film involves Winston, who is now core to the crew’s return in the sequel. In fact, he is responsible for reopening the New York firehouse. Hudson says:
“Winston’s a wealthy guy now, and he’s funding research into new technology and the science behind ghostbusting. When the world is threatened… Who you gonna call? He suits up with the rest of them.”
As for what’s going on with Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz, his life when in a much different direction, and he’s dealing with some of the changes that Winston is incorporating. The actor said:
“Ray’s been retired! He’s got fitness problems, insurance problems – Winston’s the shot-caller now and he decides Ray should step back from the ghostbusting frontline and just be an advisor. Ray does not like this. Gozer’s gone, but there’s an equally terrible threat emerging from Queens – by way of the Indus Valley – and Ray wants to be out there, driving the Cadillac.”
As for Bill Muarry returning for the sequel, writer and producer Jason Reitman said:
“Bill had always been hesitant [about coming back to Ghostbusters], and for good reason: his bar for greatness is very high. But he loves Gil and has history with him [on 2008’s City Of Ember], so there was no question he’d be here [for Frozen Empire].”
Director Gil Kenan then teases that this sequel is going to be more connected to the original movies that Afterlife was. He says:
“Not a day went by when I didn’t ask myself, ‘How would Ivan handle this?’ I wanted that same approach to character, comedy and scares he had on the first two Ghostbusters. This one feels more connected to those movies than Afterlife was.”
I’m excited about this new Ghostbusters movie! It will be fun to experience this new story and how it will play out.
In the story, New York City finds itself freezing over due to an ancient artifact that unleashes an evil force! “The Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
The film is scheduled to be released on March 29th, 2024.
