New Photo From Marvel's ECHO Features Maya Lopez Ready to Hit the Road
There seems to be a lot of curiosity surrounding Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series Echo. The trailer that was released actually made the series look good, and I hope that the series does end up being good because Maya Lopez really is an interesting character to explore.
As you know, there’s been a lot of rumors and behind the scenes drama with this show, and while the series obviously had some obstacles to jump through, I’m hoping that the creative team managed to pull off tell a good story.
The series centers on Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as she “struggles to reconnect with her Native American roots while balancing aspirations tied to a life of crime as successor to the brutal legacy of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) aka Kingpin. In the first episode, we are introduced to Maya Lopez and her struggles."
Maya has left New York City and is heading home for answers to questions she has. Director Sydney Freeland talked about the story:
"The story dictated our approach. Coming off Hawkeye, Maya is a villain, so tonally, we wanted to lean into that. I love the Netflix Daredevil. It’s great. We also very adamantly wanted to show that these people in our show bleed, they die, they get killed, and there are real consequences. It’s not the fate of the universe at stake because once you go that broad, you can lose sight a little bit. And so, that dictated the tone."
Echo is being developed by Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen, who are writers and executive producers on the show. The series also stars Charlie Cox, Zahn McClarnon, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Cody Lightning, Devery Jacobs, and Graham Greene.
All five episodes will drop on Disney+ and Hulu on April 9th, 2024.
