New Promo Spot Shared For Marvel's ECHO - "Who's The Monster?"

Marvel Studios is two weeks away from releasing its upcoming Hawkeye spinoff series Echo, and we’ve got a new promo spot for you to watch today reminding us of that. The spot teases the reunion between Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) and Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio).

There are a few cool and interesting bits of new footage in the brief teaser, some of it focusing on Lopez’s Native American roots. Echo executive producer and director Sydney Freeland has shared some insight on how this spin-off series will explore Maya's past, saying:

"In Hawkeye, she had a very close relationship with her father, but we're going to expand on that and show the relationship she has with the rest of her family: her mother, her grandmother, her other relatives. And also, within Native culture and Native societies, 'family' can have different meanings. You can have someone you're close to, and you're not biologically related, but that's my brother or that's my sister.

"I've probably got five moms. I've got one biological mom, but I've got four others that are also 'my mom,' and so I think between that and the Kingpin relationship, it's all going to be about exploring the definition of family. What does it mean to be related to somebody?"

Freeland also praised Alaqua Cox's work as Maya, saying: "I'm so excited for people to see what she can do. Yes, we've got fight sequences, but one of the things I'm most proud of from this series is how emotional it is. Alaqua is just the beating heart of this show."

The series centers on Maya Lopez as she “struggles to reconnect with her Native American roots while balancing aspirations tied to a life of crime as successor to the brutal legacy of Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. In the first episode, we are introduced to Maya Lopez and her struggles."

The first reactions to Echo have been positive, and it was described as being dark, brutal, violent, and gritty. While the series is said to have gone through some behind-the-scenes issues, it looks like maybe the creative team managed to pull off a great show.

Echo is developed by Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen, who are writers and executive producers on the show. The series also stars Charlie Cox, Zahn McClarnon, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Cody Lightning, Devery Jacobs, and Graham Greene.

All five episodes will drop on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10th, 2024.
