New Report Claims the Latest Cut of THE NEW MUTANTS Removes Ties to X-Men and Mutants
An interesting new report has surfaced regarding director Josh Boone’s The New Mutants. The rumor is that Disney and Marvel have made sure to cut all the ties the movie had to Fox’s previous X-Men films, and “the idea of ‘being a mutant’ won’t be exactly mainstream,” meaning the characters won’t know that they are mutants, and they won’t know anything about the X-Men.
The new comes from FandomWire, who reports that the story is “set within a secret facility that experiments on mutants and the main character (Blu Hunt’s Danielle Moonstar) doesn’t know she is a mutant or the meaning of the word (mutant). Moonstar is brought to the facility after an attack by Demon Bear."
I guess it makes sense that Disney and Marvel would want to remove these elements from the film. It’s further explained in the report that one of the reasons the changes were made was just “in case Kevin Feige decides later he wants to bring The New Mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
This is just a rumor. There’s been no conformation of these changes, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it turned out to be true. After all, with the failure of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, I guess it’s in Disney and Marvel’s best interest to cut those ties and not confuse audiences with what they are building in the MCU.
There have been reports that test screenings for the film have gone pretty well even if Disney isn’t impressed with the film.
The cast for the film includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as fallen Mirage. Here’s the previously released synopsis:
Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.
The New Mutants is set to hit theaters on April 3, 2020.
