New SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Trailer is Loaded with Rad New Footage!
Sony Pictures has released an international trailer for its upcoming Marvel movie, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, and it’s packed full of all kinds of radical new footage! Some of that footage includes Miles Morales fighting the film’s villain Spot. This movie is going to be such an incredibly fun movie-going experience!
The film follows Miles Morales as Brooklyn’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, “plunged into the multiverse where he joins forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-folks to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.”
After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, “Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”
Writer and producer Phil Lord talked about the movie, saying “It goes hard,” and, “The visuals will be jaw-dropping.” Miles Morales voice actor Shameik Moore went on to tease: “I will say that this story tops the first one. If the sky was the limit last time, the sky is now the floor. We’re stepping on it and looking at Jupiter!”
When talking about the villain Spot, director Joaquim Dos Santos said: "Pretty early on we knew the Spot was going to be our main villain. Without an awesome villain, who you sort of can understand with their through-line, you don't really have a strong story for your main character. So he's an awesome sort of opposite to Miles. And his living ink really is just, I think we've all been saying, it's not just an effect. It's artistry come to life. It's something that can only really happen in animation. You can imagine Spot as a dude in a sock suit in a live-action Spider-Man film. It's not going to work. It's just not going to work. So he's art come to life. He's the inkwell spilled on the page. It all goes back to sort of comic books and comic book art."
The film will consist of 240 characters, and the cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen, Brian Tyree Henry as Miles’ dad, Jefferson Davis; Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mom, Rio Morales; Issa Rae as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman; Jorma Taccone as Vulture; Rachel Dratch; Shea Whigham; Greta Lee; and Jason Schwartzman as Spot.
There are also multiple universes explored including Gwen’s Earth-65, with its distinctive watercolor palette; the India-inspired Mumbattan; Nueva York, the home of Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099, aka Miguel O’Hara; the punky New London, inhabited by Daniel Kaluuya’s Hobart “Hobie” Brown, a.k.a. Spider-Punk; and then there’s a secretive fifth dimension that’s being kept tightly under wraps for now.
The movie is being directed and produced by Justin K. Thompson, Joaquim Dos Santos, and Kemp Powers. Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Christina Steinberg are also producing. Lord and Miller will also be credited as writers on the film, along with David Callaham.
The movie is set to be released on June 2nd, 2023! The third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, will be released on March 29th, 2024.
