Nicolas Cage Reacts to His Superman Cameo in THE FLASH and Reveals Where You Can See His Superman Performance
After 25 years, fans finally got to see Nicolas Cage's Superman in action in The Flash. We even got to see him battling a giant spider, which was originally in the script for Tim Burton’s unproduced Superman Lives movie. It was a pretty wild scene to see play out in the movie regardless of the CGI effects.
Cage recently opened up about how he felt while watching that scene play out in the movie during an interview with USA Today saying:
"Well, I was glad I didn't blink. For me, it was the feeling of being actualized. Even that look for that particular character, finally seeing it on screen, was satisfying. But as I said, it's quick.”
It is quick, but it’s satisfying to watch. He went on to share where you can see what his Clark Kent / Superman performance would have been like in Superman Lives. All you have to do is watch his 1998 film City of Angels. He said:
“If you really wanted to know what I was going do with that character, look at my performance in City of Angels."
In the romantic drama, Cage plays a guardian angel who weighs trading his otherworldly existence for a mortal life with a human woman, who is played by Meg Ryan. He went on to explain:
"I was supposed [to play] Clark Kent after [City of Angels], and I was already developing this alien otherness playing this angel. That is a perfect example of the tonality you would've gotten for Kal-El and for Clark Kent. Clark would've been a little more amusing but Kal-El [had] the sensitivity and the goodness and the vulnerability and all those feelings that were kind of angelic and also terrifying."
While it was nice to get a glimpse of what Cage’s Superman would’ve been like in The Flash, I still would have loved to see him and Burton get to make their Superman Lives movie. It’s a shame that they didn’t get the chance.
