THE FLASH Might Lose Warner Bros. $200 Million

Well, while The Flash was a fun movie that delivered some great entertainment, the movie is bombing at the box office and it might end up losing Warner Bros. $200 million at the end of its box office run.

During its opening weekend, the movie grossed a disappointing $55 million at the domestic box office. In its second weekend, that dropped 72% to only $15.3 million. So, The Flash is shaping up to a big box office bomb. I was curious to see how this movie would do at the box office, especially after all of the crazy drama surrounding it. Regardless of all the hype, a lot of people just weren’t interested.

According to box office reporter Luiz Fernando, the film is estimated to earn $280-310 million globally in its theatrical run. When you set that against the film’s $200-220 million production budget, $150 million in marketing, and the fact that studios don’t take all of their box office haul, the movie may lose $200 million for Warner Bros. Fernando also thinks that they may have lost less money by releasing it on Max or not releasing it at all.

It seems like DC Studios is in trouble. With a movie like The Flash bombing at the box office, it’s safe to assume that Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom aren’t going to do so well at the box office either.

I think audiences have been burned by DC movies so much over the years that maybe they’ve just given up on it. James Gunn and Peter Safran definitely have their work cut out for them because they basically need to rebuild the brand into something that audiences want to invest their time and money into. That’s not going to be easy. Hell, even Gunn’s Superman: Legacy isn’t guaranteed to be a box office success! While he’s a great filmmaker, he did piss off a lot of fans by cutting Henry Cavill’s Superman.

It’s going to be interesting to watch and see what happens to DC Studios as it evolves under the leadership of Gunn and Safran.
