Pedro Pascal and Matt Damon Join Ethan Coen's Comedy Caper Film DRIVE-AWAY DOLLS
Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) and Matt Damon (Air) have joined the cast of Ethan Coen’s upcoming film project Drive-Away Dolls, which is described as a “comedy caper.” Pascal and Damon join the previously cast Margaret Qualley (Once Upon and Tim in Hollywood) and Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers).
The film follows Jamie, “an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, and her demure friend Marian who desperately needs to loosen up. In search of a fresh start, the two embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.”
Pascal is enjoying a successful career right now and has become very popular with his work on The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. Damon recently starred in the Nike drama Air, and the two will make a great addition to the movie. The two previously worked together on the Chinese fantasy action film, The Great Wall.
This is the first narrative film project for Ethan without his brother Joel Coen. Over the years the filmmakers have made a ton of great movies together such as The Big Lebowski, Fargo, No Country For Old Men, and more. Ethan will be directing the film from a script he co-wrote with his wife Tricia Cooke. The two previously worked together on the documentary, Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind.
In regards to Ethan and Joel doing solo projects right now, Ethan has said that there’s no drama between the brothers. it’s just the exhaustion that comes from making movies for over 30 years. He explained: “Nothing happened, certainly nothing dramatic. You start out when you’re a kid and you want to make a movie. Everything’s enthusiasm and gung-ho, let’s go make a movie. And the first movie is just loads of fun. And then the second movie is loads of fun, almost as much fun as the first. And after 30 years, not that it’s no fun, but it’s more of a job than it had been.”
The two haven’t worked together since 2018’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Drive-Away Dolls is a co-production of both Focus Features and Working Title. It also stars Beanie Feldstein, Colman Domingo, and Bill Camp.
