Pierce Brosnan Responds to Reports of Aaron Taylor-Johnson Being the Next James Bond
Pierce Brosnan recently addressed reports that Aaron Taylor-Johnson could end up being the next James Bond. The actor reportedly has been offered the role of 007 in Eon Productions’ next Bond movie and he’s expected to officially come on board very soon.
As for what Brosnan thinks about this, he thinks Taylor-Johnson is a great choice! During an interview with RTÉ Radio 1, Brosnan said: "I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so. I read the news about his possibilities of being a Bond, so I would definitely tip my hat to the fellow."
Brosnan actually has worked with Taylor-Johnson on the 2009 movie The Greatest, in which the pair played father and son, alongside Carey Mulligan and Susan Sarandon. In regard to the Brosnan said: “One of the first movies we made, one of the earliest movies, was The Greatest, and he was the greatest in it.”
Franchise screenwriter Michael G. Wilson said that producers were looking for an actor who could authentically portray a Bond who had "been through the wars, so to speak." He also said, “He's probably been in the SAS or something. He isn't some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off."
Bond franchise casting director, Debbie McWilliams, previously explained why younger actors don’t really work for James Bond. When they were looking at younger actors she said that they lacked the gravitas and mental capacity of the character.
Taylor-Johnson seems like the kind of actor that could pull this off. I’d actually like to see him in the role, so I hope that these reports end up being true.
Taylor-Johnson has refused to discuss his potential casting as Bond, and said: “I can only really talk about the things I’m going to show and tell. I don’t feel like I need to have a future drawn out for me. I feel like: whatever’s drawn out for me, I can fuckin’ do better.”
