Rian Johnson Talks About The New STAR WARS Trilogy He's Developing

Rian Johnson is currently in the news for his latest film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, hits theaters in less than a month. However, Johnson has also been put in charge of creating a new film trilogy set in the Star Wars universe. We know that the new trilogy will not feature any of the same characters that we’ve come to know and love. While in Mexico for a Last Jedi press event when asked about the new trilogy Johnson stated:

“We’re gonna have to see. I’m just in the very beginning of starting to come up with what the new trilogy is going to be. I can tell you this: what makes me so excited about it, is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world[.] There’s just so much potential and I can’t wait to jump into it.”

So he’s still figuring out what the new trilogy’s story will be, but I am excited to see what comes out of it. I’m excited to see more stories from other characters. I’m a little burned out on the whole Skywalker story (so stoked for Obi-Wan though!) so I think this is a great way to get a new generation into this world without having all the biggest twists and turns spoiled or without necessarily having a million Easter Eggs. What should the new trilogy be about? I would personally love to see it be about Revan and the Old Republic, but am open to stories that haven’t been told yet.
