Robert Downey Jr. Is Deep in the Process of Crafting Doctor Doom for the Next AVENGERS Films
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is always evolving, and with the upcoming Avengers movies on the horizon, fans are excited and curious to see what it delivers.
One of the biggest aspects of the film that fans are interested in seeing is Robert Downey Jr. diving into one of Marvel’s greatest villains… Doctor Doom.
There aren’t a lot of concrete details on Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, there are a ton of rumors, and Downy Jr.’s return to the MCU has got some fans pumped up and other confused.
According to Joe and Anthony Russo, the actor isn’t taking this role lightly. In an interview with ET, Joe Russo pulled back the curtain on Downey’s commitment to crafting this new take on Doom, saying:
"It’s a very intense process developing the character. [Downey] is so immersed in it. He is so dialed in. That’s the kind of artist he is. That’s the kind of actor he is."
The MCU has been in a rough patch since Avengers: Endgame. While some projects have found success, others, like The Marvels and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumaina, struggled to connect with audiences.
A seismic shift is needed to reignite excitement, and Downey Jr.’s return might be exactly that, and he’s actively shaping Doom from the ground up. Joe Russo expanded on his process, revealing:
"He’s writing backstory [and sharing] costume ideas. He’s really — we were just on the phone this morning, before we got here, talking about it. … He just loves really rich, three-dimensional characters, and I think he sees a real opportunity here with that character."
So, the actor is directly involved with crafting the character and he’s looking to do something unique with it. Doctor Doom is one of Marvel’s most layered, formidable, and dangerous villains, and it’s good to know that Downey Jr. is 100% invested.
