Robert Pattinson Reveals When THE BATMAN: PART II Begins Filming
It’s been a long wait for Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II, and by the time it finally hits theaters on October 1, 2027, over five years will have passed since Robert Pattinson was introduced as Batman.
After multiple delays, though, it looks like things are finally moving forward. At the premiere of Mickey 17, Pattinson shared a brief but exciting update about the sequel’s production timeline. When asked when filming begins, he responded:
"I think at the end of the year? And I know what it’s about but I can’t tell anyone, but it’s like, it’s very cool. It’s very exciting."
Pattinson isn’t the only cast member in the loop. Andy Serkis, who plays Alfred Pennyworth, has heard what Reeves has planned and is just as eager to get started:
"I am as hungry for it as you all are. He [Matt Reeves] told me the story of The Batman 2, and I was so excited for it."
Meanwhile, Colin Farrell, who will most likely reprise his role as Oz, also weighed in on his potential involvement in the sequel. While his role isn’t set in stone, he did reveal:
"I signed up for three Batman films, but I didn’t know if I’d be in the second film. Matt Reeves is a brilliant writer and an extraordinary filmmaker, and what I'm most excited-slash-nervous about in the second film is not what Oz does – or what predicaments he finds himself in, or what moments of success he gets to experience – but what his voice is."
Farrell also hinted at the evolution of his character, adding:
"How is his personality? It was forming and changing in the limited series, and, by the end of the eight episodes, it's concretized into something else. There is a degree of almost delusion psychopathy present in the last scene. So how is that taken up in the second film? I was told I have five or six scenes. I don't have any hopes or any expectations."
Speculation has been running wild about which other villains might appear in The Batman: Part II. Fan theories have thrown out names like Hush, Mr. Freeze, The Joker, and Scarecrow, but Warner Bros. has managed to keep a tight lid on any actual details.
When asked about the progress of The Batman: Part II, Reeves expressed excitement about the story taking shape, saying:
"I mean, this year we're gonna be shooting and I'm very excited about it. There's been a lot of stuff going on and it's taken longer than I would have wanted but also, I'm super excited about what we're doing and I really can't wait to share that with everybody.”
Reeves previously was asked about the rumors of Mr. Freeze as the film’s villain, but the director didn’t confirm or deny anything.
Reeves replied: "I can't answer anything." However, he did confirm that a villain has been chosen and hinted at something unexpected.
"Yes, of course, or we'd really be in trouble. I hope [it's surprising]. I think so. I think that the story is a continuation in a certain way and completely different in another. It's gonna show a different side to Rob...it's going to be really cool."
With The Batman: Part II finally gearing up, it’s only a matter of time before we start learning more about Reeves’ vision for the next chapter.
