THE BATMAN: PART II Director Matt Reeves Confirms Production Start This Year
Director Matt Reeves has shared another update on his upcoming DC film The Batman Part II. While speaking to Deadline during the Golden Globes, Reeves confirmed that production for the highly anticipated sequel is set to begin this year.
While he didn’t share a specific timeline, Reeves expressed his excitement, saying, “I can tell you that we’re gonna be shooting this year and that we’re excited about it.”
Although details about the film’s plot remain under wraps, Reeves hinted at the direction the sequel will take, saying: “What I’m excited about is I feel like we’re doing something that absolutely continues where the story came from, but is something that I hope people are going to be really surprised by.”
The project was first announced in April 2022, and in that time has faced delays, including a postponed release date now set for October 2027. There’s also the fact that there’s still no completed script for the film.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn talked about the delays, comparing them to gaps between major franchise sequels, like his own Guardians of the Galaxy films. If the current release date holds, The Batman Part II will debut more than five years after the original film.
Despite the setbacks, Reeves’ confirmation of a 2024 production great to hear. I also means that we can expect more updates soon, especially with Reeves hinting at “new people involved,” likely referring to fresh casting additions.
