Robert Pattinson Says THE BATMAN: PART II Is a “Radical Retelling” That Looks Completely Different

Robert Pattinson is teasing some pretty big changes for The Batman: Part II, and it sounds like Matt Reeves isn’t interested in simply making another version of his 2022 Batman movie.

Pattinson, who returns as Bruce Wayne and Batman, describes the sequel as a “radical retelling” that takes the character in a very different creative direction.

He’s already seeing that shift while watching raw footage from the production, saying the movie even looks different from The Batman.

Speaking about Reeves’ screenplay, Pattinson said: “Matt just wrote this amazing script. It’s difficult to reinvent Batman as this new thing. And then to kind of go in another totally different direction…

“Even when I’m just looking at the playback on certain things, it looks different to the first one. It’s just amazing. It’s quite a radical change of the script.”

That’s an intriguing tease considering how firmly Reeves established the world and personality of his Batman in the first movie. Rather than simply expanding what worked before, it sounds like Reeves is trying something different with the sequel while continuing Pattinson’s version of Bruce Wayne.

Pattinson went even further when talking about what Reeves has done with Batman’s story: “I think Matt is the only person who anybody would allow to do it, because it’s kind of a really radical retelling of that moment. I think people are going to be excited by it.”

What exactly “that moment” refers to, we have no idea. Pattinson didn’t identify the part of Batman mythology being reworked, and he avoided revealing any specific plot details.

Reeves returns to direct The Batman: Part II, with Pattinson once again suiting up as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, and Charles Dance have also joined the cast, but their roles are officially still being kept under wraps.

The Batman: Part II is currently scheduled to hit theaters on February 18, 2028.
