Rosario Dawson Expresses Positive Hope That Her Marvel Character Will Return Despite Being Cut From SPIDER-MAN 4

Just before Spider-Man: Brand New Day came out in theaters, Rosario Dawson revealed that she had filmed a scene for the film, but it was edited out of the final cut. She had filmed a quick scene, reprising her role of Claire Temple, the night nurse character which was played by Dawson in every Marvel Netflix show — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and Luke Cage.

The scene was described by industry leaker @JuanEditzs as a single scene that took place after Peter Parker woke up in the hospital. Peter would've still been wearing his Spider-Man mask when he encountered Claire, who was examining an X-ray. The two then shared what has been described as a "cute" interaction before the story moved on.

It’s a bummer for fans who would have been happy to see her cross over onto the big screen, especially with her old pal Frank Castle, but Dawson is optimistic about her character’s eventual return.

While speaking at GalaxyCon (via CB), Dawson directly addressed her absence in Brand New Day, explaining that she has a deep connection to the character of Spider-Man and was, understandably, disappointed to be cut from the movie. However, not all hope is lost. During the panel, she said, “Because everybody’s in it, it still means that, you know, my character is somewhere in that same universe, and I really love that. So, I hope I get to be Claire again.”

Dawson also compared her potential return as Claire to her role as Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars, in that both characters “meet a lot of different people,” meaning that there are more opportunities for each to appear in other stories.

I think there is a great opportunity to bring her in, whether in one of the big upcoming Avengers ensembles, or in a future Spider-Man movie. But as always, we will just have to wait and see. It’s just cool to hear that she’s as excited to return as we are to see her.
