Rosario Dawson's Cut Claire Temple Scene in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Reportedly Revealed
One of the more surprising reveals surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day came just before the movie hit theaters when Rosario Dawson confirmed that her return as Claire Temple had been cut from the final version of the film.
Fans who were hoping to finally see the MCU's longtime "Night Nurse" cross paths with Tom Holland's Peter Parker were left wondering what could've been.
Now, a new report may have answered that question. According to @JuanEditzs, who has built a solid reputation for sharing reliable leaks, details about Dawson's deleted appearance have surfaced, giving us a better idea of where Claire Temple would've fit into the story.
If you haven't seen Spider-Man: Brand New Day yet, consider this your spoiler warning.
For anyone who followed Marvel's Netflix era, Claire Temple was the character who connected nearly every corner of that universe.
Dawson appeared in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, making her one of the franchise's most familiar faces. Brand New Day was expected to officially bring that version of Claire into the MCU.
Based on the latest report, though, it sounds like the role was always fairly small. Claire reportedly had a single scene that took place after Peter Parker woke up in the hospital.
Peter would've still been wearing his Spider-Man mask when he encountered Claire, who was examining an X-ray. The two then shared what has been described as a "cute" interaction before the story moved on.
It sounds like the cameo may have happened for practical reasons as much as anything else. Similar to Eman Esfandi's brief appearance as "The Boyfriend," Dawson was already filming Ahsoka Season 2 at Pinewood Studios while Spider-Man: Brand New Day was shooting, making it an easy opportunity to bring her into the movie.
The report also claims another deleted sequence showed doctors cutting open Spider-Man's damaged suit while leaving his mask in place. Claire may have been present during that scene as well.
If that's true, it also suggests Peter's emotional hospital wake-up in the finished movie, where he removes his mask and finds Frank Castle waiting beside his bed, came together during reshoots.
As fun as it would've been to finally see Claire Temple interact with Peter Parker, it's hard to argue with the version audiences ultimately got. Peter waking up to see an emotional Punisher after being accidentally gunned down delivered a much stronger emotional punch and helped reinforce the bond the two characters had built.
Still, it would've been a cool little MCU connection, and maybe Marvel Studios includes Dawson's deleted material when Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives on Digital and 4K Blu-ray.
