Russell Crowe Reveals Trilogy Plans for THE POPE'S EXORCIST

Russell Crowe’s The Pope’s Exorcist ended up being a really fun horror adventure film. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Not long after its release, there was talk of a sequel, but we haven’t heard much about that since it was initially reported.

Crowe has now revealed that the original plan was to create a trilogy of films that follows the supernatural adventures of Father Gabriele Amorth, and he believes that things for the franchise will start rolling again soon. During an interview with The Six O'Clock Show, the actor said:

"Well that's in discussion at the moment. The producers originally got the kick off from the studio not just for one sequel but for two. But there's been a change of studio heads at the moment, so that's going around in a few circles. But very definitely, man. We set that character up that you could take him out and put him into a lot of different circumstances. And remember, the man that's based on, Gabriele Amorth, he wrote 12 books. So we have more than enough source material to do one or two more of those films. But that probably won't be until next year."

The film is inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, who wrote two memoirs, An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories, where he talked about his experiences battling Satan and demons.

This first film follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden. While the film is inspired by real events, but if you’ve seen the film, you know it embellished things a lot. Regardless, it delivered some good entertainment. The movie also did a great job setting up the franchise.

I do hope that we get to see more of these films!
