Ryan Reynolds Calls Sewing Up Deadpool's Mouth In X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE an "All-Time Foolish Studio Note"
Ryan Reynolds recently reflected on the first time he played Deadpool in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and shared his thoughts on the stupid decision to sew Deadpool’s mouth shut.
While the casting of Reynolds was an inspired choice to take on the role of Wade Wilson/Deadpool in that movie, the studio made sure to do every possible thing they could to screw it up.
Fans especially enjoyed the whole host of new powers that they gave Deadpool! Remember when Logan decapitated his head and the post-credits scene confirming Deadpool survived, presumably setting the stage for what was sure to be a terrible spinoff?
Fox sure did have some bright minds working for them and I’m not sure how Tom Rothaman is still developing movies after all the bad decisions that he’s made.
Anyway, while talking to Variety about whether he feels Deadpool & Wolverine needs to make up for their last on-screen meeting, Reynolds said: "The first time we worked together on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it’s easy to say we got some things wrong. Deadpool sewing up his mouth was one of the all-time foolish studio notes."
Regardless of that, Reynolds is still grateful for the experience. He said: "But at the same time, I’m so grateful for it. Hugh was a huge influence on me.
“It was the first time I saw how a movie star operates on set, and it defied all the preconceived notions for a movie star. He was so warm and welcoming. He made it safe to play. He knew every single person’s name."
So, while X-Men Origins: Wolverine sucked as a film, the experience that Reynolds had making it was a positive one.
You know, I just hope that Reynolds’ awesome version of Deadpool comes face to face with the version of Deadpool from X-Men Origins Wolverine.
