Ryan Reynolds Reportedly Has a “Really Smart” Idea for DEADPOOL 4

The future of Deadpool in the MCU is still a bit of a mystery, but according to one of the franchise’s former stars, Ryan Reynolds may already have the next chapter figured out.

After the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine, fans have been wondering what comes next for the Merc with a Mouth, and it sounds like Reynolds has an idea that could take the series somewhere even wilder.

The third film in the franchise, Deadpool & Wolverine, hit theaters in 2024 and brought Wade Wilson into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a big way.

Directed by Shawn Levy, the movie paired Reynolds’ Deadpool with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and delivered the kind of chaotic, R-rated superhero spectacle fans were hoping for.

Even though Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced Deadpool 4, conversations about where the story could go next are already happening.

One person who recently weighed in on that possibility is T.J. Miller, who played Weasel in the first two Deadpool films. Miller didn’t return for Deadpool & Wolverine following a series of controversies, including a sexual assault allegation and an arrest tied to a fake bomb threat.

In recent years he’s largely stayed away from acting, aside from voicing Randy in the animated sitcom F Is for Family in 2021.

During an interview with 101 WRIF Detroit, Miller was asked if there’s any chance his character Weasel could return in a potential Deadpool 4. According to him, the door hasn’t completely closed.

“It has not sailed, and that’s all I’m going to say about that. Okay. Marvel gets so weird about this stuff. They’re just like, don’t talk about it, don’t talk about it.

“…And I will also say that his idea for the next Deadpool film is, like, really good. You know, it’s just, it is really smart. He told me the idea.

“I kind of got hair on the back of my neck standing up because I was just like, I didn’t think you could do something that’s even more different than Deadpool & Wolverine.

“And I think he has, I think, you know, it’s in the chamber, and I don’t know when that’s necessarily going to happen because he’s got a couple other projects going, but I’ve really come to, I mean, I always liked him and thought, I’ve always thought he’s the funniest.”

If Reynolds really does have a fresh idea ready to go, that’s a pretty exciting prospect considering how much Deadpool & Wolverine already pushed the franchise into new territory.

That film opened the door to multiverse insanity, legacy characters, and a fully R-rated Marvel Studios project, which was something fans had been waiting years to see.

For now, Marvel hasn’t confirmed Deadpool 4, and there’s no release date on the calendar. Still, with Reynolds clearly invested in the character and the last film proving how huge the audience still is for Wade Wilson, it feels less like it will happen one day. Disney wouldn’t mind making another billion off of the character.

If Reynolds really does have something “really smart” lined up for the next installment, it’ll be interesting to see just how far the franchise can push things next.
