Ryan Reynolds Thanks DEADPOOL Fans with Video for Their “Unapologetic Devotion” After Surprise Comic-Con Appearance
If you happened to be walking the San Diego Comic-Con floor this weekend, there's a chance you unknowingly crossed paths with Deadpool wearing his grey outfit.
Ryan Reynolds managed to pull off the kind of stunt only Deadpool could get away with, slipping onto the convention floor in full costume without giving himself away.
Now, the actor has shared a fun behind-the-scenes look at the experience while sending a heartfelt message to the fans who helped turn the franchise into the global phenomenon it is today.
Following Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation on Saturday, Reynolds posted a video on X showing moments from his undercover Comic-Con adventure.
The footage captures him blending into the sea of cosplayers, taking in the excitement firsthand, and enjoying the rare opportunity to experience Comic-Con from the other side.
Along with the video, Reynolds reflected on what the fan community has meant to Deadpool over the last decade, writing:
“The fans got Deadpool off the ground so many years ago. Yesterday, 10 years after the first film and exactly 2 years after Deadpool & Wolverine, I felt so lucky to be on the #SDCC floor with everyone whose unapologetic devotion brings so much joy to this world.”
It's a cool full-circle moment for the actor. Before the first Deadpool movie ever reached theaters, the character had one of the most passionate fan campaigns in superhero movie history, helping convince the studio to finally move forward with the project.
Ten years later, Reynolds was able to celebrate that legacy by walking among those same fans without them realizing who was standing beside them.
The video also includes another fun Comic-Con moment from Marvel's Hall H presentation, where Robert Downey Jr. spotted Reynolds after taking the stage alongside his Avengers: Doomsday castmates.
Downey Jr., fully embracing his new role as Doctor Doom, joked: “Who’s this guy with the swords and stuff?” Reynolds, staying perfectly in character, stepped up to the microphone and replied: “Long-time listener, first-time caller. This seems an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?”
The crowd loved it, and it was another reminder that Reynolds' trademark Deadpool humor is already firing on all cylinders again, and I have no doubt this was a tease for for Avengers: Doomsday appearance.
Just last week during an appearance at New York's Fantastic Fest, Reynolds confirmed that Deadpool 4 is officially in development and teased that there are still plenty of comic book stories he'd love to bring to the big screen.
He said: “There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies. I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics.
“There’s certainly some stuff that I love that [Deadpool co-creator] Fabian Nicieza wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan, who was a friend, was an incredible comic writer. There’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, remotely another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great.”
There are no story details yet, but Reynolds has made it clear that he's eager to dig into lesser-known corners of Deadpool lore while paying tribute to the writers who helped shape the character over the years.
If this Comic-Con appearance is any indication, Reynolds hasn't lost any enthusiasm for playing Wade Wilson. From surprising fans on the convention floor to trading jokes with Marvel's biggest stars, he seems to be having as much fun with the character as ever.
And judging by the reaction from the Comic-Con crowd, fans are more than ready to follow Deadpool into his next outrageous adventure.
