SHANG-CHI Star Simu Liu May Have Just Teased Spider-Man’s Role in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY
A seemingly innocent social media post could be hiding a pretty big reveal. A recent share from Simu Liu has sparked speculation that Spider-Man could swing into Avengers: Doomsday, and the internet is already running wild with theories.
It all started when Liu, best known for his role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, reposted an Easter-themed illustration on Instagram on April 7. The artwork features Doctor Doom holding a basket filled with Easter eggs, each decorated to represent different Marvel heroes. It seems like a fun holiday post, but the details tell a much more interesting story.
Alongside the illustration are images of characters tied to each egg, including Shang-Chi, Cyclops, Thor, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Shuri, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Loki, Reed Richards, and notably, Spider-Man.
What makes this stand out is that many of these characters are already expected to appear in Doomsday. So naturally, fans are asking the obvious question… is Spidey part of the lineup too?
Things get even more interesting when you realize the original post came from Robert Downey Jr., who is set to play Doctor Doom in the upcoming film. While his version of the post didn’t include the character images, the shared artwork still featured the Spider-Man-themed egg. Whether intentional or not, it’s the kind of detail Marvel fans love to dissect.
Online reactions didn’t take long to heat up. One fan wrote, "So finally there is a confirmation from the Shang Chi himself." Others aren’t so convinced it points to Tom Holland’s version of Peter Parker.
Some believe the design of the Spider-Man symbol on the egg actually resembles Tobey Maguire’s classic suit logo, who reported has a big role in the film.
At this point, nothing has been officially confirmed. It’s also worth noting that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange appeared in the artwork as well, and his involvement in Doomsday isn’t guaranteed. So, this could simply be a festive piece of Marvel-themed art rather than a calculated tease.
Still, Marvel doesn’t exactly have a reputation for random details. Fans have been trained to look for clues everywhere, and this feels like one of those moments that might actually lead somewhere.
As for what’s next, Holland’s Spider-Man is already set to return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day later this summer, so the character is very much active in the MCU. Whether that momentum carries into Doomsday remains to be seen.
One thing’s for sure, though. When Marvel drops even the smallest hint, fans are going to chase it down.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18.
