Shawn Levy Says Taylor Swift Has "The Makings of a Hell of a Director," and Compares Her to Steven Spielberg
Director Shawn Levy is best known for helming hit movies like Just Married, the Night at the Museum films, Date Night, Real Steel, Free Guy, episodes of Stranger Things, and the upcoming Marvel film, Deadpool 3. But before he became a big time director, he acted in many films and TV series, and has even appeared in bit roles over the past several years, including a background part in Stranger Things, as well as the music video for Taylor Swift’s All Too Well: The Short Film, in which he plays “Her Dad.”
Levy came away from that experience with some pretty incredible things to say about Swift’s directing ability, telling Entertainment Weekly, “Taylor has not consulted me about upcoming directing projects, but I think she has the makings of a hell of a director.”
He continued:
“Spielberg was on the set of a movie he produced that I directed, called Real Steel, and I said to him, ‘How do you know it’s the right shot?’ His answer was, ‘The way you see it, that makes it right.’ I feel like that’s something Taylor Swift has figured out really well, because that’s about trusting your instinct.”
That is some pretty incredible praise! Maybe the world’s biggest pop star will make her way into the director’s chair. Swift has not yet directed a feature film, but it was reported in 2022 that she is developing her feature directorial debut for Searchlight Pictures with an original script she wrote. It has also been rumored over the last year that Swift will appear in Levy’s Deadpool 3, but nothing has been confirmed.
