Sigourney Weaver Looking To Join Live-Action TOMB RAIDER Series Starring Sophie Turner
With Sigourney Weaver wrapping up her time on Pandora in the Avatar franchise, it looks like she might already be lining up her next adventure. According to Deadline, the iconic actor is in talks to join the upcoming live action Tomb Raider series at Prime Video.
A deal has not been finalized, but the possibility will have fans imagining Weaver stepping into another massive franchise. The series is set to star Sophie Turner as Lara Croft with Phoebe Waller Bridge writing and executive producing.
Prime Video declined to comment on Weaver’s potential involvement and for now her role remains a mystery. Whatever character she plays, her addition would immediately raise the profile of the series.
Production is gearing up quickly with a January 19th start date and Chad Hodge joining Waller Bridge and Jonathan Van Tulleken as executive producer and co-showrunner.
Van Tulleken is also directing and executive producing, bringing his recent work on Shōgun and Dope Thief into the mix.
The show is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Story Kitchen and Crystal Dynamics, the studio that produces the Tomb Raider games.
If Weaver signs on, it would add yet another major project to a career that launched with Alien and evolved into decades of awesome performances across genre hits. Her upcoming slate is already stacked.
She can be seen next in Avatar: Fire and Ash the third film in the record breaking James Cameron franchise that bows December 19. In 2026 she is set to appear inThe Mandalorian and Grogu and she has Bryan Fuller’s film Dust Bunny, which opens this weekend.
It will be interesting to see who Weaver ends up playing in the series.
