SILVER & BLACK Movie Update - The Producer Questions if The Movie Can Really Work Without Spider-Man
Sony Pictures has been looking to develop a Marvel project based around the Spider-Man characters Silver Sable and Black Cat for years. The two characters were originally going to appear in the same movie together, then plans changed, and the studio decided to develop solo movies for each one. After that, there were rumors that the project was going to be developed as a TV series.
Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Old Guard) was set to direct the Silver & Black film, but after the changes with the direction that Sony was looking to take it, she remained a producer. During a recent interview with GamesRadar+, she was asked about the project, and in her response, she explains that there’s a question of if you can really tell this story without Spider-Man. Here’s her response:
"My honest answer is I don't know. I really love those characters, I loved having them together. I thought, what we came up with was a really good, really organic way to have the two together. That world is changing so much because of the success of the Spider-Man films."
"There's a question of, 'Can you really have these films with Spider-Man not in them? Should he at least have some sort of part in them?' That's always the question. I've taken two years off of that for [The Old Guard] so once this gets out into the world, I hope it's a success, and then I'll certainly go back and start talking with them again."
We know that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will eventually jump into the Sony Pictures’ Marvel films after their current deal with Marvel Studios is complete. They are already setting up his entrance with Morbius and Venom 2. After all, Michael Keaton's Vulture will return for Morbius, and this seems to hint that Sony is looking to build toward a Sinister Six movie.
One thing is for sure, these Marvel movies that Sony Pictures are producing will work a lot better once Spider-Man is involved. All these characters work so much better with Spider-Man!
