Simon Pegg Thinks STAR TREK 4 Might Finally Happen Thanks to Paramount’s New Boss

Simon Pegg says there’s new hope for Star Trek 4. The actor, who brought Montgomery “Scotty” Scott to life in the 2009 reboot and its two sequels, recently shared that the winds at Paramount Pictures might finally be shifting in the USS Enterprise’s favor.

Speaking at the STLV Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, Pegg revealed that David Ellison, the newly appointed Paramount chairman following Skydance’s acquisition, could be exactly the captain this long-delayed project needs.

“David Ellison is a big Star Trek fan. He cares about the series.”

Pegg made it clear he’d be thrilled to beam back onto the set with his fellow crew members.

“I love those guys. And despite how we had a tragedy in our group [Anton Yelchin’s death], which was extremely painful, it would be wonderful to come together again.”

Yelchin played Pavel Chekov in the films and tragically passed away in 2016 at just 27. Pegg went on to say:

“J.J. [Abrams] has always said that there are scripts being developed and this and that. I think it’s about time. It would be great to see us ten years after the five-year mission, where we are.”

The Kelvin Timeline crew, which includes Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, and Zoe Saldaña as Nyota Uhura, last appeared in 2016’s Star Trek: Beyond, following 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Since then, Star Trek 4 has endured countless starts and stops, including a planned 2022 shoot under Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman that never launched. Even in 2023, Pine admitted he still hadn’t seen a script.

That may be changing. In 2024, Supernatural writer Steve Yockey was tapped to write a new script, hinting the project might still have warp in its engines. Meanwhile, a completely separate Star Trek film from Andor director Toby Haynes is in the works, described as an “origin story” set decades before the events of the reboots with no connection to Pine’s Kirk.

The Star Trek universe continues to thrive on the small screen, with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 now out and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy set to launch in early 2026.

If Ellison’s fandom translates into greenlighting Star Trek 4, Pegg and the rest of the crew might finally get the reunion they’ve been waiting for.
