Sony Pictures Is Reportedly Planning a New Spider-Man Trilogy, but Tom Holland Has Yet to Sign On
Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home was a great conclusion to the Spider-Man trilogy, and it set up a new way to play with Spider-Man as the franchise continues. It’s a fresh start for Spider-Man as no one remembers that Peter Parker is the web-slinger.
I think we all know that Sony will eventually continue the Spider-Man franchise, but it’s being reported by Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider via The Ankler, that Sony is planning a new trilogy of Spider-Man films and they want Tom Holland back for the role. But, Holland has yet to sign on to a second trilogy. Here’s what was reported:
"Okay, so Sony may not have the biggest bench in terms of franchises, but it wisely made a deal with Marvel Studios to get its marquee character Spider-Man into the MCU, which helped make the studio's solo Spidey movies must-sees, even more so. And while plans are in motion for another Spidey trilogy starring Tom Holland, I don't believe he has actually signed a deal yet, so those plans remain unofficial for now. That said, I'm sure that more Spidey adventures with Holland are a top priority for Rothman & Co., which is also counting on him as the anchor of its budding Uncharted franchise as well."
I’m totally up for more Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland! I just want Marvel to continue to lead the charge on the character. They actually know what they’re doing. Luckily, it seems like that will be the case.
Sony producer Amy Pascal previously implied that a new trilogy was in the works and back in December, she confirmed Marvel and Sony were “actively" developing the next Spider-Man movie!
Pascal said, "We're producers, so we always believe everything will work out. I love working with Kevin. We have a great partnership, along with Tom Rothman, who runs Sony and has been instrumental, a great leader with great ideas. I hope it lasts forever."
Feige went on to say at the time, "Amy and I and Disney and Sony are talking about — yes, we're actively beginning to develop where the story heads next, which I only say outright because I don't want fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after Far From Home. That will not be occurring this time."
We have no idea when we will see a new Spider-Man film, but I’m sure it’ll be a while. At least we know more films are coming, and I can’t wait to see what Spider-Man stories they will tell.
