SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Directors Tease What He Can Expect From the Next Chapter
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is now in theaters, and so far, fans are loving the awesomeness that this movie delivers! This is the first part of a two-part story that will continue with Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, and yes… this most recent movie ends on quite a little cliffhanger.
During a recent interview with CB, the film’s co-directors were asked about what we can expect from the next chapter of the story, and Justin K. Thompson teased:
"I mean, look, that's, we've all been on that journey too. I've been at the end of the line where I'm like, I don't know what the next step is for me. I will say animation saved my life. I was at a point in my life where I was like, I don't know what's going to happen next. I don't know. And it was animation that sort of came in and swept me off my feet and provided for me. So I think that relatability again is something we can impose on Miles and wonder what is he going to do? What's the thing that's going to save Miles?"
Thompson went on to talk about how focusing on their characters will help guide them and be their North Star:
"I think, I think as long as we focus on our characters, as long as we focus on why he's doing what he's doing and why it matters, I think that will always be our North Star no matter what. But I can tell you, I can promise you it's going to be amazing. It's going to be spectacular. It's going to be fantastic. It's going to be Spider Man."
One thing we know for sure is that the next chapter of the story is going to be insanely interesting and super intense. If you’ve already seen the movie, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, I can’t wait for you to experience Miles Morales’ new adventure.
The sequel follows Miles Morales as he is “plunged into the multiverse where he joins forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-folks to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.”
After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, “Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”
Writer and producer Phil Lord previously talked about the movie, saying “It goes hard,” and, “The visuals will be jaw-dropping.” Miles Morales voice actor Shameik Moore went on to tease: “I will say that this story tops the first one. If the sky was the limit last time, the sky is now the floor. We’re stepping on it and looking at Jupiter!”
The film will consist of 280 characters, and the cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen, Brian Tyree Henry as Miles’ dad, Jefferson Davis; Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mom, Rio Morales; Issa Rae as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman; Jorma Taccone as Vulture; Rachel Dratch; Shea Whigham; Greta Lee; and Jason Schwartzman as the villain Spot. Andy Samberg also recently joined the cast.
The movie will also introduce multiple universes including Gwen’s Earth-65, with its distinctive watercolor palette; the India-inspired Mumbattan; Nueva York, the home of Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099, aka Miguel O’Hara; the punky New London, inhabited by Daniel Kaluuya’s Hobart “Hobie” Brown, a.k.a. Spider-Punk; and then there’s a secretive fifth dimension that’s being kept tightly under wraps for now.
The movie is being directed and produced by Justin K. Thompson, Joaquim Dos Santos, and Kemp Powers. Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Christina Steinberg are also producing.
