SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Empire Covers Tease Spidey’s Fight Against the Hand and Their New Leader

Sony Pictures continues to peel back the layers of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and these newly revealed Empire Magazine covers give fans a much better idea of the chaos waiting for Peter Parker in the next chapter of the MCU Spider-Man saga.

The covers put Tom Holland’s Spider-Man front and center as he squares off against The Hand, the infamous mystical ninja clan that Marvel fans last saw causing trouble in Netflix’s Daredevil and The Defenders. Only this time, they’ve gone full comic-book mode with a much more faithful visual design, and they look pretty awesome.

One cover shows Spidey being chased by the ninja assassins, while the second has him gearing up for an all-out clash against the organization. I love that The Hand will have a major role in the movie and I’m curious to see how they fit into the story.

The images also features a mysterious woman leading The Hand. Speculation online points to Mariko Yashida, the daughter of Silver Samurai from Marvel Comics.

Of course, Marvel loves throwing fans off the scent, so there’s always a chance these covers are steering attention away from the movie’s actual big threat. Tombstone is still being kept tightly under wraps, and there’s also the unresolved mystery surrounding the mind-control powers that apparently have the Department of Damage Control extremely worried.

That mystery has only fueled more speculation about Sadie Sink’s undisclosed character. A lot of fans are still convinced she could be playing Jean Grey.

With a big marketing push like this coming, Sony might end up releasing a new trailer soon, one that could debut with Masters of the Universe.

Following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Brand New Day picks up four years later with Peter Parker living a completely different life. After erasing himself from the memories of everyone he loves, Peter is now alone in New York and fully committed to being Spider-Man full-time.

But keeping the city safe comes with a price. As the pressure builds, Peter experiences a strange physical transformation that threatens his existence just as a terrifying new wave of crime sweeps through New York. And somehow, all of it appears connected.

The cast for Spider-Man: Brand New Day includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.

The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Producers include Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O'Connor.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
