SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Kept Sadie Sink in the Dark Until She Arrived in London for Filming
Marvel Studios has built a reputation for guarding its biggest secrets, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day is no exception. The studio's latest web-slinging adventure has been wrapped in mystery from the beginning, and a new detail about Sadie Sink shows just how serious Marvel is about keeping spoilers under lock and key.
According to a new feature from Nylon, Sink wasn't even handed a script for the film until she arrived in London to begin production. That's despite the actress reportedly landing her role without having to audition.
The report states that the Stranger Things star "didn't receive a script until she landed in London."
It's unclear whether Sink had previously read an earlier version of the screenplay before receiving her personal copy, as she isn't directly quoted about that specific detail in the article. Still, it shows how tightly Marvel and Sony have been protecting the movie's story.
Considering how closely fans have been watching every piece of news surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's easy to understand why. Even with the film less than a month away, the biggest questions remain unanswered.
One of the biggest mysteries continues to be Sink's character. Fans have spent months trying to connect the dots, with Jean Grey remaining the most popular theory. Of course, Marvel hasn't confirmed anything, and plenty of other possibilities are still floating around.
Sink has spent much of the promotional tour expertly dodging questions about her role, something she seems well prepared for after years of working on Stranger Things, another franchise built on keeping surprises under wraps.
When asked about the secret to keeping confidential information from leaking, Sink offered a refreshingly simple answer: “You just don’t share the secret. It’s not that hard.”
That's probably advice Tom Holland wishes he had mastered years ago. Marvel has managed to keep almost everything about Spider-Man: Brand New Day hidden.
Aside from an early trailer leak that surfaced about a week before the official release, surprisingly little has escaped from the production. In today's internet landscape, that's a pretty impressive accomplishment.
Holland also recently confirmed that audiences still haven't learned who the movie's main villain is, teasing something fans haven't seen before.
"The villain that we have in this new movie, which is still very much a secret, is, I think, unlike anything we've seen in one of these movies before."
That comment has only fueled even more speculation about what's waiting for Peter Parker this time around. With release day almost here, it probably won't be much longer before Marvel finally starts revealing some of the answers fans have been chasing.
Until then, Sink's mystery role, unless you believe she’s playing Jean Grey, the identity of the villain, and whatever surprises Spider-Man: Brand New Day has planned remain exactly where Marvel wants them... under wraps.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31.
