SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Rumor Teases Hulk Showdown and a Wild X-Men Twist

There’s a lot of anticipation building around Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and with CinemaCon right around the corner, fans are expecting some fresh reveals.

While we wait to see what Marvel officially drops, a new rumor has started making the rounds online that adds a pretty unexpected wrinkle to the story, one that pulls in the Hulk, the Punisher, and even a major X-Men connection.

According to insider reports, things get messy in a big way when the Savage Hulk enters the picture, setting up a brutal clash with Peter Parker and Frank Castle. But the real curveball here involves none other than Jean Grey.

The rumor from @MyTimeToShineH, claims, "Jean Grey will take control of the Hulk and turn him into Grey Hulk,” and that’s not all. Apparently, she’ll then "make him fight Spider-Man and Punisher.”

Bringing Jean Grey into the MCU through a Spider-Man movie is an interesting move, and making her someone who’s controlling minds right out of the gate adds an even darker edge. It paints her less like a traditional hero and more like a wildcard, or possibly something worse.

Of course, there’s always the chance this is Marvel playing the long game with some clever misdirection. It wouldn’t be the first time details like this have been twisted to hide a bigger reveal. There’s also speculation that if Jean is involved, she might not be acting on her own, especially if the Department of Damage Control has anything to do with it.

While that side of the story is still a mystery, one thing that does seem locked in is the dynamic between Spider-Man and the Punisher, which might end up being one of the coolest parts of the movie.

Tom Holland recently talked about working with Jon Bernthal, and it sounds like their on-screen relationship evolved into something fans are really going to enjoy.

"I am so excited for people to see John Bernthal as the Punisher in this movie. You know, he's come from a very different world.

"He's in the R-rated universe, and we've basically picked him up and plonked him into our world, and he absolutely sings in this movie. He is incredible," Holland said.

"The relationship between Spider-Man and the Punisher is so funny, and it changed a lot, and it evolved a lot as we were shooting because Jon and I would improvise."

"It started as this relationship of two people that really kind of hate each other, I guess, and then as we started improvising, it became this big brother-little brother rivalry, and it might be my favorite dynamic that I've ever seen with Spider-Man."

That kind of back-and-forth between Peter’s hopeful heroism and Frank’s brutal worldview has a lot of potential, especially if they’re forced to team up against something as dangerous as a Hulk under psychic control.

Story-wise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Peter Parker completely on his own. The world doesn’t remember him, and he’s fully committed to being Spider-Man. But that isolation comes with a cost, and as pressure builds, it starts to take a toll on him in ways that sound both physical and psychological.

On top of that, a surge in crime is setting the stage for a major threat, one that could push Peter further than ever before.

Whether this Jean Grey rumor turns out to be legit or just another piece of Marvel smoke and mirrors, it definitely adds an interesting layer to what’s already shaping up to be a pretty intense next chapter for Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
