Star Fox Crashes Mario’s Cosmic Adventure in THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE
Nintendo isn’t easing into its next movie. After the massive box office haul of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the studio clearly realized it could swing a lot bigger, and that’s exactly what’s happening with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
This sequel isn’t just taking Mario into space, it’s opening the door to something that looks a lot like a full-blown Nintendo crossover playground.
The first film didn’t just perform well, it exploded at the global box office, and that kind of success tends to give studios a lot of creative confidence. So it’s not shocking that the sequel is taking bigger swings, even if one of those swings involves dropping a completely different Nintendo franchise right into Mario’s orbit.
After fans spotted a quick tease in a TV spot and started speculating, Illumination made it official. Fox McCloud from the Star Fox series will appear in the movie, Arwing and all. He even got his own poster!
From a tonal standpoint, it actually lines up. The Galaxy games are built around interstellar travel, strange planets, and cosmic-scale adventure. Star Fox has always lived in that same lane, so blending the two seems like a natural move. It feels like Nintendo realizing how naturally these worlds can overlap.
It’s also already been teased that R.O.B. will show up, and there are hints that Pikmin could appear as well. So while Fox is getting the attention right now, he’s likely just one piece of a much bigger puzzle packed with references and surprise appearances.
What makes Fox’s inclusion especially interesting is where the Star Fox franchise sits right now. It’s a name that longtime fans love, and it’s stayed visible thanks to Super Smash Bros., but it hasn’t had a major breakout moment in quite a while. Nintendo has revisited it multiple times over the years, but nothing has quite stuck in the way earlier entries did.
That’s why this movie could be a big deal for the character. Even a smaller role in a high-profile release like this could put Fox McCloud back in front of a huge audience in a way the games haven’t managed recently.
If this all clicks with audiences, it’s easy to see where things could go next. Nintendo has a massive library of characters, and Galaxy might be the moment where those worlds start colliding in a more meaningful way.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, now officially featuring Fox from Star Fox, lands in theaters on April 1.
