STAR WARS: ANDOR Creator Tony Gilroy on George Lucas Calling Him To Tell Him He Loved ROGUE ONE

Star Wars fans sure did enjoy the story that Tony Gilroy told in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Andor series. I think it’s safe to say that none of the fans expected the show to be as great as it was. It’s one of the best Star Wars projects that has been developed and we’re all waiting for the second and final season to be made and released.

The Andor series is a spinoff of Gilroy’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and it focuses on the character Cassian Andor, who is played by Diego Luna. Rogue One was an awesome Star Wars film, and because of that movie, Gilroy received a call from Star Wars creator George Lucas to tell him how much he loved it.

During an interview with Deadline, Gilroy talked about his experience playing in the Star Wars sandbox and he shared what it was like for him to get a call from Lucas. He said:

"George Lucas called me after Rogue, I had a 45-minute conversation with him after he saw Rogue, and that's the only time I've ever spoken to him. He loved it. He really did. He had a lot of things to say that I... It was like a call from the president.”

What a cool experience it must’ve been for Gilroy to talk to Lucas! It makes me wonder what other writers and directors got calls from Lucas to tell them how much he loved their Star Wars projects! Lucas did show up on the set of The Mandalorian, and when talking about that experience, second unit director Sam Hargrave compared Lucas' set visit to getting a visit from Yoda:

"I was there but, I mean, I was working on another stage. But I did pass through, and I saw him there. He was actually – you would've thought that the real Yoda had showed up. I mean, he kind of did. But there was more people there that day than any other day on any other, you know, episode of the whole season. That was as if you were at Comic-Con on the stage where he was. It was crazy."

I hope that Andor isn’t the last Star Wars project that Gilroy works on! He needs to come back and tell another story set in this epic universe when he’s done with Andor.
