STAR WARS OUTLAWS Will Be a "Deeply Immersive" Open World Game and Other Details Shared
Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws game looks like it’s going to be a pretty awesome gaming experience and we’ve got some new insight to share with you for it. The game is said to offer a "deeply immersive" Star Wars experience as an open world game.
In a recent interview with Kotaku, narrative director Navid Khavari talks about the open world aspect of the game, saying: "Focusing on the open world game aspect allowed us to build out a deeply immersive Star Wars journey."
Khavari also talked about the main character of the game, Kay, and how they have given her an entire galaxy to explore. They wanted this character to be deliberately out of their depth: "We wanted to create a scoundrel who has never experienced anything like this before. She hasn't figured it all out yet, and doesn't have all the right answers all the time."
It’s also explained that players will travel to "dense cities bustling with activity," as well as "cast, mysterious, and stunning open environments." Khavari added: "Space represents a super lucrative yet very risky experience for any outlaw. If you go off the beaten path, your willingness to explore will bring surprises as well. So you can go from taking on a contract to steal an Imperial shipment, but then get distracted on your speeder and head off into the Toshara savannah in search of an artifact, and the game will reward your curiosity.”
Another cool thing that is talked about is that players will have the ability to move between different modes of transport with ease. That will be a core aspect of the game. Khavari goes on to say that "one of the core parts of the scoundrel fantasy is having your own ship and that essentially being your home." And that ship remains a key part of Outlaws' exploration of space.
The story for the game is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Star Wars: Outlaws is being billed as the first ever open-world Star Wars game, and players will be able to explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new.
The story centers on a female character named Kay Vess, who is voiced by Humberly Gonzalez. Kay Vess is “an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.”
The character Nix will be voiced by The Bad Batch's Dee Bradley Baker. In a press release, creative director Julian Gerighty spoke about the game's setting, saying: "When we first imagined the first open-world Star Wars game, we explored where and when it could take place, and quickly realized that we had all the right ingredients for the journey of a scoundrel. These outlaws live life under the thumb of the Galactic Empire, but can still thrive given the opportunities that the criminal underworld opens up for people looking to take advantage of the turmoil. The time is ripe for a new outlaw to make their name, and Kay Vess is written in the stars."
Star Wars: Outlaws will be released in 2024. I’m excited about playing this!
