Steven Spielberg's UFO-Inspired Film Gets a 2026 Release Date

Universal Pictures is set to release Steven Spielberg‘s untitled event movie that’s reportedly inspired by UFOs on June 12, 2026.

Spielberg reteams with screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park) on the film, and the cast includes Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place), Josh O’Connor (Challengers), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Eve Hewson (Bad Sisters).

Amblin Entertainment is producing the film and it was previously reported that the movie would be a “UFO film based on his own original idea.”

Spielberg previously reflected on his past and teased that he’s interested in "scaring the shit" out of audiences with a new horror movie.

He said: "I feel a little alarmed to be told I've lived a lifetime because I'm not finished. I want to keep working. I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself and sometimes the shit out of you. I gotta get back to some of those earlier scary movies but that's another story for later on."

It would be really cool if Spielberg actually made a sci-fi horror film! Spielberg is no stranger to movies about aliens, with films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind ,  E.T. and an adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds.

He also produced the TV series Taken and the Netflix docuseries Encounters last year, which explores true stories of human contact with otherworldly phenomena.
