TALK TO ME Directors Offer an Update on Sequel and They Have Two Scripts to Choose From
The directing duo behind Talk To Me, Danny and Michael Philippou, aren’t in a rush to jump straight into the sequel to their breakout horror hit even though A24 greenlit Talk to Me 2 back in 2023.
While the brothers are gearing up to release Bring Her Back, they recently offered a small but interesting update to IndieWire about the status of the follow-up.
Turns out, they’re stuck at a creative fork in the road. There are two different scripts for the sequel. Two different directions. And they can’t seem to choose.
“A part of it is, I can’t decide which is the best avenue to take,” Danny Philippou said, confirming that he and co-writer Bill Hinzman have drafted up two distinct storylines.
But don’t expect a decision soon. The Philippous are juggling multiple projects. Michael is working on a documentary they’re directing, and Danny is diving into a new horror film with Hinzman, the details of which are still under wraps. Only after that secret project is completed will they shift their focus back to the Talk to Me sequel.
Michael laid out a tentative (and very loose) timeline: “So I’d say 2025 Bring Her Back, 2026 the documentary, 2027 [the new] horror, and then Talk to Me 2,” Michael said. “Maybe, I don’t know.”
Still, A24 probably won’t want to sit on it for too long. The original film was made for just $4.5 million and earned that back on its first day. After scooping it up out of Sundance for a reported “high seven figures,” the studio clearly saw something special.
If you need a refresher: Talk to Me centers on a group of friends who discover a way to summon spirits using a mysterious embalmed hand. The supernatural high turns into pure nightmare fuel when one of them pushes too far, triggering a terrifying chain of events.
