Tatiana Maslany Jokes Fans Would Be “So Mad” If She-Hulk Returns to the MCU

It’s been a while since we last saw Jennifer Walters smash her way through the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the conversation around her return hasn’t slowed down.

With Marvel Studios building toward massive crossover events, there’s been plenty of speculation about whether She-Hulk could pop up again. Now, Tatiana Maslany has weighed in, and her take is equal parts thoughtful and amusingly self-aware.

Maslany recently appeared on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast while promoting her new Apple TV series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, and naturally, the topic of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law came up.

While fans have heatedly debated the show’s place in the MCU, Maslany seems unsure how well the character fits into a larger ensemble like Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

"Yeah. I mean, I don’t know,” Maslany said. “I think it would take somebody like Jessica Gao to weave her into that world because she knows that character so deeply and loves her and gets her tone, but there is something about She-Hulk being the star of her own show that makes sense. Do you know what I mean?

“Because of the direct address, she is our narrator. So, I think it would be a real cool challenge to see her in some other context, but I do think like the sort of joy of She-Hulk is in the singularness of it.”

The show leaned heavily into breaking the fourth wall and embracing a comedic tone that gave the series the uniqueness that made it stand out, but it also raises questions about how the character would function alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

When asked whether a second season or a big-screen jump is more likely, Maslany didn’t exactly sound optimistic, but she did crack a joke that fans probably won’t forget anytime soon.

“I don’t know. I think people would be so mad at me being on their screens again,” she joked.

That self-deprecating humor comes from a real divide in the fanbase. While She-Hulk pulled in solid viewership and generally positive reactions from casual audiences, hardcore MCU fans were more split.

Some loved the absurd, meta humor, while others weren’t into its lighter, more chaotic style. The finale especially became a lightning rod for criticism.

Even series creator Jessica Gao admitted the ending was tough to crack back in 2022, saying: "We really, really struggled with the finale.

“We started off doing a lot of versions of the finale that were much more just like straight and very, very Marvel movie, you know, and it just never felt right for us to just end in a big set piece fight, and take out the bad guy, and it just always felt like, ‘Oh, it’s a different show now.’"

A recent rumor suggested Maslany was approached to return for future Avengers films but turned it down due to a reported falling out with Marvel Studios.

Things got a bit more complicated when Maslany made headlines for encouraging fans to cancel Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN subscriptions after Jimmy Kimmel was temporarily taken off the air following controversy tied to Charlie Kirk. Not long after, insider chatter claimed Marvel still wants her back, but she may not be interested in returning.

According to that rumor: "Marvel Studios wanted to use She-Hulk in a big way for Avengers Secret Wars. The problem is that Tatiana Maslany has no interest in working for Disney. If they’re unable to convince her to return, the options are to remove the character altogether or recast the role."

At this point, She-Hulk’s future in the MCU feels like a giant question mark. Whether she returns, gets recast, or quietly disappears, one thing’s clear, Maslany’s take on Jennifer Walters left a mark.

Love it or hate it, She-Hulk brought something different to the table.
